Is it true that Cold Sores are Herpes?
Do you suffer from cold sores? Well, unfortunately the bad news is that cold sores are a form of herpes.
There are two types of the herpes simplex virus - HSV-1 and HSV-2.
HSV-1 is the most common type and is also known as the cold sore virus. Many people catch the HSV-1 virus in childhood.
HSV-2 is the genital herpes virus. But it can be spread to the face (oral herpes aka cold sores) during oral sex if the genital herpes are infectious.
Can you control the virus?
The other piece of bad news is that there is no cure for the cold sore virus. But there are several treatments available, as well as ways to reduce the impact and speed up the healing process when an outbreak of cold sores occurs.
